We never stopped doing so. If we were better at it half our problems would disappear overnight. It's a global economy in which we will have to 'take' our slice come hell or high water. Nobody's going to pull our coals out of the fire -Europe or otherwise. It's time to take a leaf out of other nations books and look to our own laurels first - not after due consideration of the other chaps feelings. I'm sorry for those who were born in the last 30 years but nobody owes you a living - certainly not me -. The real world is about to take a bite from your bottoms. Sorry if you thought it was an easy ride. But it isn't and never was. Regardless of all the previous political clap-trap you've had to swallow. Albert - we need trade regardless of from where.
Europe is as good a market (if not better) than a lot of others. We take what we can get. It's called survival.

As for "it never did us any harm", that's only because the board rubber didn't blind you or cause other serious damage, more good luck than management. But I do agree there has to be some effective deterrent for dealing with anti-social behaviour in schools. If I knew what the answer was I would make a lot of money.

Neither can I Tinkerbell as can clearly be seen in my books, a subject which I dwell upon or possibly 'over-dwell' upon. Much of it was unnecessary - however our peers at the time thought otherwise. BUT - there have to be effective sanctions when children get out of hand (as most children do at one time or another). Just how far one should go with some form of physical restraint or other punishment is a very hot potato? But I still favour the use of corporal punishment in the right hands and with the right controls. It's all very well you or others saying - I can control my kids without having to lay hands on them, but it is not 'you' who is having to keep that 'control' in schools, it's others who haven't the same longevity of knowledge of the child or what makes it tick. We are all different. I quite accepted the old lady using the frying pan on me (she had to, she was very short of stature) but baulked and rebelled at others taking their fists to me (whether warranted or not). You're not my mother therefore you keep your hands of me - that sort of reaction. And unfortunately it only made me worse in seeking revenge. But when a ten year old tells you to 'f*** off and stick your pencil up your a***' just what are you supposed to do? You can blame parents if you wish but I find that a lame argument with some children. Some can be totally different 'outside' than when at home. Some have characters that argumentative and rebellious naturally. It's not always down to nurture. Problem - yes it is. But we cannot go on with the way things have been going. There has to be a middle road somewhere.

I want to speak about the girls in that case—the vulnerable girls who went to hell and back through what they experienced. I pay tribute to their bravery in coming forward and standing up to their abusers. They did it to get justice and to stop it happening to others. Vulnerable girls like that do not usually get heard by politicians. They do not get easy access to power or influence. How will the Government respond to these terrible crimes, and will the Prime Minister support a serious case review?

 <div id="c163" ="contribution"=""> <div ="member"=""> <span ="member"="">
The Prime Minister:
<p ="paragraph"="">First, I pay tribute to the honorable Gentleman. He is absolutely right to say that these girls have been brave to come forward and tell their stories, with all the difficulties that that involved. He has talked about people who have come to his constituency surgeries. Of course this is a problem across communities, but there are particular problems in particular communities and he has been brave to say that, because we need to face up to these problems if we are to deal with them. He asks about a review. I will have a look at that. As I said, the Office of the Children’s Commissioner will—hopefully—come up with recommendations within a month, and I understand that Rochdale borough safeguarding children board has conducted a review of child sex exploitation which will be published, but I am prepared to look at the issue of a serious case review as well.
