We are looking to recruit a Contract Engineer & Toolmaker, for our client in the Greater Manchester area.
Purpose of the Job
To be responsible for selection, purchasing and setting up toolmaking department within our insulation business unit.
This role will be responsible for setting up a department, which will be able to design and manufacture the mould tools and dies that are used in forming thin foils, for covering of insulation products within the automotive industry. From selection of machinery, installation and correct use through to ongoing tool development.
The work involves reading and interpreting technical drawings or computer generated designs to construct or machine the shape of the mould tool or die. Programming of CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machines to manufacture the item. Testing the function of the tool in the moulding or extrusion machine.
Key Processes:
• Correct selection and specification of milling and routing machinery
• Manufacture tools using a range of complex machines.
• Carry out sample trials of the tool to ensure mouldings are correct
• Set machine and processing equipment to specification.
• Set and load mould tools and dies to machines and processing equipment
• Adjusting machine settings to maintain process to specification
• Repair and modify mould tools and dies
Minimum Entry Level:
NVQ Level 3 in Tool making or engineering accompanied by industry experience and BTEC ONC/D or City & Guilds engineering qualification
Normal work consists of 39 hours per week, with weekend, shift work and overtime when required.
Knowledge needed for the role:
• Knowledge of the properties and processing behaviour of polymer materials
• Knowledge of the properties and characteristics of metals and other materials used for the mould tool
• Good mechanical and engineering knowledge
• Basic knowledge of electrical, hydraulic and pnuematic systems
• Knowledge of machines used for the manufacture of mould tools
• Knowledge of the processing equipment that utilise mould tools and dies
Other information:
CNC Miller with experience of working with 5 axis machinery.
