In its 49th year Milnrow and Newhey will be the place to be on Saturday 24 June as stock cars return to Rochdale to join Milnrow and Newhey Carnival parade and attend the summer fete afterwards at Milnrow Memorial Park.  As a special treat this year, The British Stock Car Drivers Association (BSCDA) will be entering 8-12 cars in the parade and will have two cars on display at the park.

Milnrow Brass Band will lead the parade, with the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale Ian Duckworth and Mrs Christine Duckworth.  Milnrow Parish C of E Primary, Moorhouse Primary, Crossgates Primary, Newhey Community Primary and St Thomas C of E Primary Schools are once again supporting the event along with Abracadabra and Milnrow Pre-School. 

In particular, watch out for Milnrow Pre-School Playgroup in the parade and at the park who will be celebrating their 50th year of being open anniversary and they would love for all people past and present to join them in the parade for the carnival walk and then for their Tea Party in the Milnrow Memorial Park. 

Along with carnival queens, other exciting entries are from Milnrow Cricket Club Juniors, Milnrow Football Juniors, Milnrow & District WI, Milnrow & Newhey Bridleways Group, Loud Studios, Slimming World, Lancashire Law, Oldham and District Mini Club, Milnrow Morris Troupe, K Stars Morris Troupe, Rochdale Heartbeat, Show Trucks, Scan Computers and Coyote MCC, the Rolling Credits, Captain Jack Sparrow and Mr Gibbs look-a-likes with many more groups yet to confirm.

Also, this year the committee are delighted to announce that Springhill Hospice will be their sole chosen charity for 2017 and 2018.  

Paul Kettle, Chairman to the carnival, commented: "We are proud to raise valuable funds for such a fantastic charity which touches the lives of so many in our local community". 

The parade starts at 1pm at Haugh Lane, Newhey. The parade proceeds down Huddersfield Road, turns right towards Milnrow, up Newhey Road, continues through Milnrow, turns left onto Station Road, past Holroyds and then turns right onto Dale Street.  It continues up through Milnrow and terminates at Milnrow Memorial Park for a Summer Fete.

Entry is free to the park where there will be live music from Soul City Sound, a funfair for all ages, two F1 BriSCA stock cars on display, Milnrow Football Juniors shoot-out, Rochdale Exotics, crazy golf, paintball, Murlin's Magic nerf gun alley and a wide variety of high quality stalls including Mrs Barber's Bakery, The Body Shop at Home, Temple Spa Skincare Products, Sugar Chic Fudge and Busy Beans Coffee which is a mobile coffee bar which offers only the finest quality of hand-crafted drinks. Their specialities range from the sophisticated espresso right through to the indulgent Caramel Macchiato.
