A new Interventional Radiology Day Case Unit is due to open at The Royal Oldham Hospital in November 2017. The interventional radiology team would like to invite staff, stakeholders, patients and their families/carers to an Open Day on Thursday 30 November 2017 from 1pm until 4pm.

The event will be an opportunity for staff, the public and Trust members to learn more about the new innovative day case unit and the many different interventional radiology procedures that will be performed there.

This ground breaking unit puts Oldham Care Organisation at the forefront of modern healthcare in treating patients who require radiological intervention as day cases. Previously these patients would have been admitted to an inpatient ward, however the new day case unit will enable patients to be admitted, treated and discharged in one single area in just six hours. The unit can treat up to five patients at a time, which means that up to an additional 760 patients can be treated each year. These patients would otherwise have unnecessarily occupied an inpatient bed.

The new day case unit aims to vastly improve the overall patient journey and streamline patient pathways. It will also benefit other parts of the hospital by releasing beds on surgical/medical wards that would have been used for patients needing various treatments such as peripheral angioplasties, nephrostomy changes, varicocele embolization and IVC filter removal.

The creation of this new day case unit has been done in conjunction with the project to install a new CT scanner at The Royal Oldham Hospital, and is an exciting time for the Oldham Care Organisation.

If you are interested in attending the Open Day please register via email – Emma.ross@pat.nhs.uk.  On 30 November please report to the day case unit reception between 1pm and 4pm, where a member of the team will greet you.  The unit is situated within the X-ray department which is located at the front of The Royal Oldham Hospital.
