Details:

Rochdale's very own Malcolm Lord, wit, raconteur, broadcaster and one of the biggest names on rugby league's after-dinner circuit, will be on home ground at the Masonic Hall, Richard Street on Friday, 8 December.

Having broadcast on rugby league for the BBC, from Bradford to Brisbane, Salford to Sydney, he will front the Rochdale and District Scottish Society's 'Evening with Malcolm Lord', lifting the lid on a remarkable media career which began when, as a young man and secretary of Rochdale Hornets, he would answer calls to the Athletic Grounds from BBC Radio Manchester in the early days of local radio.

Once voted 'commentator of the year', he had his first book, 'With that, back to the studio . . . ' published in 1993.

"We're looking forward to a great night with Malcolm who, despite his media work at home and abroad, is very much a Rochdale lad through and through," said Ray Milligan, president of the local Scottish Society.

Tickets, priced £15 including supper, are available until December 1 from Brian Grove, tel: 01706 638177.
