The Northern Care Alliance will be hosting a free talk on Urgent Care at Rochdale Infirmary on Tuesday 29 May 2018.

The Urgent Care Centre offers a 24 hour a day 7 day a week service to members of the public where they can attend when they have a minor injury or illness and do not require a 999 ambulance. It sees both adults and children of all ages and has separate facilities within for these patient groups to be seen and treated. Last year the Urgent Care Centre saw approximately 52000 patients.

Dr Coates, Clinical Director for the UCC said; “The UCC at Rochdale Infirmary replaced the Accident and Emergency Department and walk-in centre in April 2011 as part of the Healthy Futures programme which was agreed in 2007 by the Secretary of State for Health at the time.

The UCC is open 24/7, 365 days a week. It is run by experienced nurses, nurse practitioners, paramedic staff, emergency medicine doctors and GPs working together as a team. We treat non-life-threatening walk-in injuries and ailments, which do not require an A&E department, but cannot wait for a GP or on-call doctor's appointment.

It has proven to be a very successful and popular service able to treat the majority of patients who present to the unit.

“However we occasionally see patients who “self-present” with serious conditions such as a Heart Attack, or Stroke. Pathways exist for these patients to be transported by emergency ambulance to suitable hospitals to manage these serious conditions. Patients who dial 999 will be taken directly to centres appropriate to the patient’s needs by the ambulance service.

I will talk about our journey, likely future developments and our capablilities.”

The UCC is located on the Rochdale Infirmary site. Rochdale Infirmary is one of five hospitals managed by The Northern Care Alliance (NCA); the others are Salford Royal, Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, The Royal Oldham Hospital and North Manchester General. The NCA brings together two Trusts, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

The talk will be held on Tuesday 29 May, 2.00pm – 3.00pm in Room D3, Education Centre, Rochdale Infirmary, Whitehall Street, Rochdale, OL12 0NB  All are welcome to attend; to book your place contact Angela Greenwood on 01706 517302 or email membership@pat.nhs.uk.

The event is free and is one of a series of ‘Medicine for Members’ events arranged to give the public and the Trust’s public members a greater insight into their local hospital and the services it provides. So far, more than 12,500 people have signed up to become Trust members.
