Fire Service Museum Christmas Open Day and Consultation

01 December 2019

Sunday 01 December 2019
10am - 4pm

Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum
Maclure Road
Rochdale
OL11 1DN

Details:

The Museum is moving from its current premises in the rear yard of Rochdale’s former Maclure Road fire station into the main building fronting Maclure Road, which is being completely restored thanks to National Lottery and other funding and will be more than four times the size of the existing site.

As part of the redevelopment process, the Museum is keen to share its plans with the local community, especially people who may have never visited before.

Construction work is expected to begin in early January and will take almost a year. The existing museum will remain open for several months.

The plans and images will be available for inspection (and comment) during the Museum’s Christmas Open Day event on Sunday 1 December, running from 10am - 4pm with free admission.

This is one of the major events of the year and will feature a funfair, fire engine rides and a visit from Santa.

Museum Curator Bob Bonner said: "This is the public’s opportunity to have a close look at our intentions, share their thoughts with us and have a great time at the Open Day as well. Our exhibition designers, The Creative Core, will be on hand to answer any questions whilst the younger visitors can enjoy all our special attractions on the day."

Fire museum attractions will also be on show including our collection of historic firefighting artefacts from the 18th century to present day, plus home-made refreshments, souvenirs, free admission and parking.

Monthly (Sunday) open days are on the first Sunday in the month.

Weekly open days take place every Friday (except bank holidays).

Access to the Museum is via Richard Street, rear of Rochdale Fire Station.

Entry fee: Free admission but a small charge to meet Santa with gift
