The legend of the Boggart of Clegg Hall
The play tells the story behind the Clegg Hall ghost which for hundreds of years has struck terror into the hearts of innocent passers by, workers in the nearby fields and bargemen on the canal. There seems to be no common shape or pattern to it and has been variously described as “a great shadowy form” or “an intangible strange apparition”. Although there are sometimes no sightings for several years, recent reports from towpath ramblers leave us in no doubt that the boggart is still there!
Artistic director Margaret Hopkinson, who also appears in the play, assured us that although the legend itself is a gruesome tale of murder, greed and ghostly apparitions, the production takes a lighter view of history and promises an evening of thrills, excitement and lots of fun! The Tale of Tim Bobbin rapidly sold out and, although MADs are putting on an extra performance, the seating at the Mill is very limited, and customers should book their tickets as soon as possible.

Free Bike Security Scheme
Cyclists are being urged to saddle up and take advantage of a free bike security scheme being offered when the Tour of Britain rides into Rochdale.
Officers from the Rochdale North Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) will be marking bikes with special security paint free of charge from the mobile police station at the junction of Packer Street and Fleece Street. They will also give out free bike locks to anyone getting their bike marked and residents will also be offered useful crime prevention advice to prevent them from being a victim of crime.
Once painted on, the unique security mark cannot be easily removed and can be used to identify the rightful owners of bikes if they’re stolen and to help convict cycle thieves.
