Event: ‘Whose Shoes?’ Maternity listening engagement event

Midwives at The Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary and in the community are inviting pregnant women and those who have recently experienced local maternity services to attend a Maternity listening engagement event, called ‘Whose Shoes?’

The event will be held on Thursday 19 October between 12 midday and 3pm at the Oldham Civic Centre, Rock Street Resource Centre on West Street in Oldham.

The event is open to anyone who is pregnant, had recent experience of maternity services, or who works closely with maternity services across Oldham or Rochdale borough.

Samantha said: “It is really important we continue to listen to those who use our maternity services or work with our staff so that we can find ways to improve the experience women and their families have when accessing maternity services.

“Our staff are committed to helping women deliver over 5,000 babies each year at our maternity unit and The Royal Oldham Hospital and out in the community. Only by speaking with new mums, those women who are pregnant and those who have experienced our services can we really put ourselves in their shoes and understand what is important to them and how we can further improve our services and the patient experience, ensuring they are safe, responsive and family centred.”

The Royal Oldham Hospital also receives regular feedback via the NHS Friends and Family survey and also through the Trust’s Maternity Listening & Action Group (MLAG).

The Maternity Listening & Action Group is a group made up of representatives from the local community, maternity healthcare professionals, doctors, midwives, peer support workers and new mothers and fathers. The group was formed in 2015 to ensure women’s views and experiences are included in guidelines, complaint reviews and new developments.

MLAG meetings are usually held bi-monthly on Tuesdays at Derby Street Children’s Centre in Heywood.

Meetings of the MLAG have so far have discussed stories and experiences of the women and families who have recently used maternity services, welcomed new ideas and heard about elements the Trust could improve on.
