The public are invited to an open event to see Pennine Acute Trust’s new high-tech specialist training simulation suite at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

The public are invitied to experience a day in the life of a Doctor or Nurse.

The event will give visitors the opportunity to learn more about clinical teaching and to look around the new simulation suite, where real life emergency scenarios can be simulated in a safe environment for doctor and nurse training.

Visitors will be able to watch the simulation suite in action and see other task trainers. They will also have the opportunity to view the new equipment for training our junior surgeons to undertake laparoscopic surgery. All NHS professionals learn, practice and repeat procedures, to improve their skills, fine-tune techniques and master clinical protocols, designed to improve outcomes, before using them on real patients.

The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the providers of both undergraduate medical, dental and nursing education in the region. The simulation and clinical skills team develop and deliver various and numerous clinical training sessions to support all students based within the Trust.

As well as students the Simulation and Clinical Skills Team is responsible for providing clinical training to all staff both registered and unregistered throughout the Trust.

Toby Garrity, Simulation and Clinical Skills Manager at The Pennine Acute Trust, said: “I hope delegates will take the opportunity to experience a day in the life of doctors and nurses using our realistic simulators in a safe environment at their local hospital”

The event is free and is one of a series of ‘Medicine for Members’ events arranged to give the public and the Trust’s public members a greater insight into their local hospital and the services it provides. So far, more than 12,500 people have signed up to become Trust members.
