DETAILS:

Edgar Wood Academy - A new secondary academy coming to your area

Why a new secondary school in Middleton?

The number of pupils in the current year 4 and below has grown and existing schools in the Middleton and Heywood areas are unable to accommodate these additional pupils. This means that unless a new school is built, there will not be sufficient secondary school places to accommodate current pupils in year 4 and below.

Where will the school be located?

Rochdale Borough Council have identified a piece of land at Bowlee accessed off Heywood Old Road with good transport and access links serving the local area.

When will it open?

The academy will open in September 2020 initially to just year 7 pupils. These are pupils currently in year 4.

How big will the academy be?

Each year group in the academy will be 180, giving a total size of 900 pupils.

In 2020 the academy will welcome our first year 7 pupils and in 2021 year 7 and year 8 until in September 2024 the academy will have pupils in all years reaching a capacity of 900. The academy is large enough to meet the demand for additional school places required but small enough to offer an intimate and caring approach to all pupils and families.
