Event: Celebrating the work of religious and civic organisations for asylum seekers and refugees in the town

A special service of celebration will be taking place at St Chad’s Church, Rochdale on the 16th June at 3pm to celebrate the work of religious and civic organisations for asylum seekers and refugees in the town.

The hour long service will be attended by local religious and civic leaders including The Mayor of Rochdale, the Bishop of Middleton, and the two local MPs (Tony Lloyd and Liz McInnes). The Address will be given by Reverend John Arnold, The Roman Catholic Bishop of Salford.

At the service people will hear from two asylum seekers who will talk about their experience of seeking asylum in Rochdale. A Community Choir, made up of local asylum seekers and refugees will take part in the service, whilst religious and civic leaders sign a Covenant pledging their organisations to continue working together in the future.

There will be an opportunity for people to meet with asylum seekers and refugees after the service and listen to their personal stories.

The service has been organised by the Rochdale Action for Destitute Asylum Seekers and Refugees (R.A.D.A.R.).
