DETAILS:

If you're aged 14-24, you can build skills, confidence and fitness with a series of exciting challenges through the Duke of Edinburgh's (DofE) Award.

Rochdale Borough Council’s youth service are hosting a special open evening on Wednesday 13 November, 6.30pm - 8.30pm, at Matthew Moss Youth Club for young people who are interested in taking part in the upcoming DofE scheme.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is the world’s leading youth achievement award, giving millions of 14 to 24 year olds the opportunity to be the best they can be. They achieve this through a variety of volunteering, physical, skills and residential challenges over a year alongside youth workers.

Previous expeditions have involved young people camping wild in the mountains of the Lake District and topping the Three Peaks of the Yorkshire Dales while relying solely on themselves and their team.

Diane Higgins, senior youth worker, said: “The challenges build confidence, fitness and skills in our young people to set them up for later life. The whole course, no matter the award level, is designed to help young people push their own limits, discover new talents and support their local community whilst making new friends. I hope to see lots of young people sign up and get involved.”

As well as making new friends and having a blast, DofE involvement also looks fantastic on your CV.

Rochdale Youth Service are also looking for adults who wish to volunteer on the DofE scheme. If you would like to get involved in volunteering and gaining new skills visit the link below or email youth.service@rochdale.gov.uk

Applications to join this year’s DofE scheme close on Wednesday 20 November 2019.
