Phil Reynolds, from Rochdale School of Rock & Pop, and vocal coach Kate Gavaghan went to XS Manchester to teach breakfast show presenter Steve Berry how to sing, in 30 minutes on Monday.

Phil Reynolds said: “It's part of an idea based on Freddie Mercury's 70th birthday last Monday and an attempt to prove that anyone can learn to sing, or improve their singing.

“The teaching session was videoed to be broadcast later this week.”

“Session was great-our vocal coach, Kate Gavaghan, and I discussed about singing generally, how techniques have changed and confidence issues, then Kate spent around 30-40 minutes teaching Steve proper breathing techniques, finding his range, warming up and choosing a song, White Wedding by Billy Idol.

"Steve sang it once at the start, then again an hour later after Kate's coaching and was noticeably better and more confident too."

The XS Manchester visit was aired on the Wednesday (14 September) breakfast show at 8.30am.
