Theo Peppe named as a finalist for the British Takeaway Awards

Date published: 23 November 2016

Theo Peppe in Rochdale is a finalist in the British Takeaway Awards (BTAs).

The five finalists are:

  • Theo Peppe in Rochdale (Italian/Greek) - 2015 finalist
  • 23rd Street Pizza in Fallowfield, Manchester (Pizza)
  • Brunch in Prescot, Merseyside (Breakfast/Sandwiches) - 2015 winner
  • Sun Wah in Birkenhead, Merseyside (Chinese) - 2015 finalist
  • Grilled Hotspot in Radcliffe, Manchester (Burger/Kebab)

The BTAs - which are run in association with Just Eat (www.just-eat.co.uk), the world’s leading marketplace for online food delivery - are about celebrating the diverse range of cuisines and rewarding the amazing contribution a nation of takeaway owners make to both their local communities and the British economy.

The top five takeaways in the North West received the most public votes across two public voting periods and have made it to the star-studded national awards ceremony, hosted by comedian Rob Brydon on 5t December at The Savoy in London. In total over 110,000 members of the public voted in the BTAs.

To determine the winner, each of the finalists will now be marked on a mystery shopping experience, and have also been asked to provide a submission on why they deserve to win. A panel of judges, including celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott and businesswoman and star of BBC2 Dragon’s Den Sarah Willingham, will review the results and identify the 13 regional winners and the overall victor.

Graham Corfield, UK Managing Director of Just Eat and who chaired the judging panel, said: “These finalists clearly have the loyal support of their customers, who have voted in their thousands to get them into the top five takeaways in the North West. What is common among all the finalists is that they produce fantastic food, deliver great customer service and play a vital role at the heart of their community.”

In total, 16 awards will be presented. Each of the 13 regional winners will receive £1,000 and free sign up to Just Eat, or their sign-up fee returned if they are already a partner. However, one of the 13 will be extra lucky as they will win the coveted award for Best British Takeaway in Britain and also receive a cheque for £5,000. There are also awards for Takeaway Chef and Delivery Driver of the Year.
