Date published: 31 January 2017

New figures show that more new companies over 2,000 new businesses were registered in Rochdale in 2016.

In Greater Manchester, the City of Manchester formed the most new businesses 9,563, followed by Bury 4,071, Stockport 3,304, and 2,012 new business in Rochdale.

A total of 32,999 new businesses were registered in the area compared to 28,265 in 2015.
The number of registered companies in Greater Manchester now totals 167,797, up from 156,025 at the end of 2015, which equates to 7.5% growth.

The statistics come from the Inform Direct Review of UK Company Formations, using data from Companies House and the Office of National Statistics.

John Korchak, Director of Operations at Inform Direct said: “These figures underline the positive entrepreneurial culture that fosters new company formations and drives economic growth. So far, at least, we’re not seeing evidence that the Brexit vote has dented confidence among those considering starting up in business.

“Greater Manchester again delivered an impressive number of new companies in 2016, demonstrating that it offers a fertile environment for new businesses to spring up and prosper.”
