Warehouse at Crown Business Park given green light for extension

Date published: 31 May 2018

A warehouse at Crown Business Park was unanimously given the green light for an extension at Wednesday’s Planning and Licensing Committee (30 May) despite a local councillor's concerns.

The extension is to the existing storage and distribution warehouse, including the service area, turning area and parking area at Unit 7 on the business park.

A request to call-in the application was put forward by ward councillor Billy Sheerin, who was concerned about visual impact on Castleton, due to its situation at the highest point in the village.

The existing unit is finished in light green profiled metal cladding and measures approximately 120 metres in length, 55 metres in width and 10.3 metres to eaves height. The service yard and parking area lie to the north side of the building, and a landscaped earth bund lies to the west, falling away to the site boundary adjacent to a single-width emergency access road.

The extension to the existing warehouse would match the height and the full width of the building (55 metres), measuring 37 metres in length.

The proposed extension would occupy part of the land that currently forms the landscaped bund to the western end of the building. The remainder of the land in this corner of the site would be re-profiled, with the earth bund increased in height before falling away to the site boundary. Landscaping is also proposed for the land surround the warehouse and extension.
