Egg-cellent result for butcher

Date published: 03 October 2013

A tasty combination of local sausage meat, sage and onion flavouring and locally sourced eggs has made one local butcher an egg-static champion.

The team at Newhey Quality Butchers in Rochdale, is celebrating after their ‘Scotch Egg’ was picked as one of the dozen best pork products in the North West.

Topping the Speciality Pork Products category, Newhey Quality Butchers were one of 40 butchers in the region to attend the Regional Roadshow and Butcher's Pork Product Excellence Awards, held in Bolton last week.

With around 80-100 scotch eggs made every week, the product is extremely popular with regular customers.

Graham Main said: “It is such an achievement to do well at these awards, particularly in the Speciality Pork Products category which is always hotly contested.

“We use locally sourced, top quality sausage meat and eggs; this means the end result is a flavoursome and fresh Scotch Egg. We’ve also developed a great cooking technique which makes them melt in the mouth – something that our customers always comment on. The scotch eggs are so popular that we’ve even started supplying a local café with them.”

But it wasn’t just the eggs that gave the butchery a cracking result – the team went on to pick up a further nine awards, including six gold, two silver and a bronze, for sausages, pies, bacon and black pudding entered into the awards.
