Adam Hazeldine awarded AMTRI scholarship

Date published: 11 March 2014

Adam Hazeldine made the exciting decision seek a craft based career after completing his A levels at the age of 18. Now 26 he has been awarded an AMTRI scholarship.

The scholarship is a financial package intended to promote excellence in engineering based manufacturing. It is one of the most significant awards in the field of manufacturing.

Adam was employed by PTG Holroyd Precision in 2005 as an Apprentice Machine Tool Fitter, whilst receiving his qualifications with training provider Rochdale Training. Adam completed his apprenticeship five months earlier than expected, which is a remarkable achievement considering he had no previous experience in engineering having studied business,  law and psychology at 'A' level.

Don Whittle, HR director of Holroyd Precision, said: “With his apprenticeship complete, and having gained both an ONC and HNC in Manufacturing Engineering, Adam then joined the business in a permanent role, as a Machine Tool Fitter.”

He added:“Driven by ambition; he also decided to take an evening course in Computer Aided Design, which was self-funded.”

Since becoming a permanent full time member of the team at Holroyd’s Precision, Adam’s objective was to gain sufficient skills to be selected for a role within the Machine Design Team.

Don Whittle added: “Adam has gone from strength to strength during his time with us. Indeed, it is fair to say that the more difficult or complex the task, the greater his determination to analyse and resolve it, and take on greater responsibility.”

As a valued and well-respected member of the PTG Holroyd team, Adam has also achieved his goal and is now employed as a Design Engineer with the company.

A spoeksman for Rochdale Training said: "We are proud to have been involved with the learning and development of Adam’s career, and delighted to see how much he has achieved since completing his apprenticeship."
