Search is on for Rochdale’s top independent retailer

Date published: 26 June 2014

Throughout the month of July, a search will be ongoing for the best local independent retailer in Rochdale.

The competition is open to all independently-owned businesses, from family-run restaurants, take aways, hairdressers, gift shops to hardware stores.

Businesses across Rochdale can help Town Centre Management (TCM) promote online via social media and in store. The purpose of this is to get the local businesses recognised.

How this will take place is, on the Rochdale Town Centre Management facebook page which is www.facebook.com/rochdaletownmanagement and the twitter page which is www.twitter.com/@RochdaleTown, a person will leave a comment regarding which business and why they love this business and also #independentretailers on the page.

Award winning business, Natasha Brown from Browns Handcrafted Cakes, said: “We always take part in Independent Retailers Month as it has generated us more publicity along with new customers which was all also free of charge. I will definitely be taking part in the Independent Retailers Month again”.

Cash mobs will also be taking place in order to generate promotion for local independent businesses.

Cash mobs will take place on the first 4 Wednesdays of July at noon outside the Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre.

To take part, each person must at least bring £5.00, a random business will be picked and everyone will head over and at least spend £5.00 within in that local business.

Debbie Hernon from Town Centre Management said: “Cash mobs are a good way to gain new customers, it is exciting for all involved as you will not know where it is you are visiting until the business name is drawn, on top of this, it’s a good excuse to try out new places in Rochdale Town Centre”.
