Businesses raise money for charity by wearing Christmas jumpers

Date published: 16 December 2014

Businesses across Rochdale asked members of staff to wear a Christmas jumper to mark Christmas Jumper Day On Friday 12 December, to help raise money for charity.

The event was started by Save The Children three years ago to help raise funds for the charity and has seen people from the young to the old pull on a Christmas Jumper every year since.

PDS UK Door and Window in Littleborough took part in Christmas jumper day and raised around £50 for Save The Children.

Tim Fairley, from PDS, said: “We just wanted to get into the festive spirit and raise some money for charity at the same time. It was a good day and everyone enjoyed it.”

The Ryder and Dutton Office in Rochdale Town Centre also got involved with the fundraising.

Vicki Hindle, from Ryder and Dutton, said: “We decided to get involved with the day to do some fundraising for the local hospice. Ryder and Dutton are supporters of a number of local hospices, one being Springhill Hospice.

“Everyone had a good day and really enjoyed it. This is the first year we have got involved and we will certainly be looking to do it again. Once we know how much we have raised, the money will be split across the Hospices we support.”

The Honda dealership in Rochdale not only had staff member’s wearing Christmas jumpers but some staff wore Christmas hats and antlers to help with their fundraising.

Karen Wild, from Swansway Honda Rochdale, said: “With it being a charitable event we thought it would be a good thing to get involved with. We do a lot of things for charity and with this event being for Save The Children we thought it would be a bit of fun to do. This is the first time we have got involved but we will certainly do it again.”

RRG Mazda Rochdale took part in Christmas Jumper day for the second year running and hope to make the fundraising day an annual occurrence.

David Ward, from RRG Rochdale, said: “We thought it would be a bit of fun whilst also raising money for charity at the same time. We did it last year so after our second time I think we are going to try and make it a regular thing.”
