The Baum celebrates 35 years since the doors first opened

Date published: 14 September 2015

Situated next door to the Co-Op Museum on Toad Lane, The Baum opened its doors on 1 September 1980 as a small local pub.

Since then, the pub has become one of Rochdale’s finest public houses.

Landlord Simon Crompton has worked at The Baum for 21 years. He started working as a bar man, before becoming the bar manager. He then became the owner in 2005 and jointly owns the pub with his wife Heidi.

Simon and Heidi have turned The Baum into a pub that has picked up the CAMRA award for Best Bar three times.

Heidi said: “Over the years we have been fortunate to be able to run the business on our own personal morals and ethics. We 'buy local and support local' as we believe in supporting local independent businesses for supplies.

“Our cask ale selection is a major attraction for real ale drinkers as we have seven ever changing guest ales, always maintaining a 'local ale' and keen to try new breweries and ales.

“The Baum is a well-established pub and people visit us with high expectations for a 'real pub' feel. The decor, staff, spacious beer garden and the food and drink selection on offer continue to attract a wide range of customers.

“Simon has worked at The Baum for 21 years and we have jointly owned it for 10 years, in addition to it being open for 35 years, it's a big celebratory year.”
