Wayne Jones takes over as Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce President

Date published: 16 October 2015

Wayne Jones, Chairman of MAN Diesel & Turbo Ltd UK and Head of Global After Sales for the MDT Group, formally takes over as President of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce today (Friday 16 October).

The handover took place at the Chamber Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Chamber’s Headquarters on Deansgate in Manchester. Jones takes over the post from Neil Smith MBE, Managing Director of Kinetic. Steve Burne from AEW Architects remains Vice President.

Working with MAN since 2005, Wayne Jones has been leading the company’s Diesel Engine After Sales and Service business since 2010. He started his MAN career as head of the UK Aftermarket Business before becoming the country’s Managing Director in the same year.

Before joining MAN he has worked at Sulzer Pumps for more than a decade.

The confirmation of Mr Jones’ presidency comes in the same week that it was announced he will be joining the MAN Diesel & Turbo SE, Executive Board as the company’s new Chief Sales Officer. He will formally take on the new role – the first Briton to hold such a role - on 1 January 2016.

As is usual, in the presidential address, Mr Jones laid out his key priorities for his time in office. He will especially focus on manufacturing and engineering, international trade and the training and development of young people.

Mr Jones said: “It is a great honour and privilege to become President of the largest Chamber of Commerce in the UK. I join a great team with real passion for improving the opportunities for businesses in GM and at the forefront of major changes in our region and beyond. I look forward to helping steer and influence various stakeholders to continue to improve businesses in our great city region.”
