New scheme helps Rochdale shoppers buy with confidence.

Date published: 26/08/2005

A new scheme to ensure that shoppers in Rochdale can buy with confidence from all types of traders is launched this week.

On Friday 26 August, Councillor Ann Metcalfe, Cabinet Member for Environment & Sustainability, Andy Glover, Consumer Protection & Registration Manager will present a certificate to John Crossley, Proprietor of Red Rose Preservations who are the first members of the Rochdale Fair Trading Scheme.

The scheme is a new idea from Rochdale Council's Trading Standards Service.

Scheme members will demonstrate a commitment to trade fairly and honestly and meet minimum standards of quality. All applicants must demonstrate that they have in place a method for dealing efficiently and effectively with complaints. The scheme is managed and monitored by Rochdale Trading Standards Service.

Councillor Metcalfe said, "Rochdale Trading Standards wants the scheme to be of huge benefit to consumers and businesses in Rochdale. As membership grows, confidence in reputable traders will increase, and this should reduce the number of complaints received by the service."

So if you're a consumer wishing to find a reputable trader, or a business that would like to join the scheme, you should contact the Trading Standards Service in Rochdale on 01706 864186.
