Obituary: Donald Pickis

Tributes are paid to Donald Pickis who has died the age of 83.
He was known as Don by his close friends and family. Mr Pickis was born in Guildford in 1930 before moving to the Rochdale area in 1969.
He was a founding member of the Littleborough Civic Trust (LCT) and played a vital role in securing the formation of Hollingworth Lake Country Park.
He also helped to refurbish the Coach House in Littleborough which was in a terrible condition. This is now an information site for tourists after Mr Pickis played huge role in converting the semi-derelict building.
Iain Gerrard, secretary of the LCT, said: “People are still seeing the benefits of everything he achieved with the LCT; he fought for Littleborough when others didn’t.”
He went on to say: “He was a nice and gentle man who always put Littleborough first.”
Mr Pickis' funeral is at 11.50am on Monday 1 July at Rochdale Crematorium.
Donations if desired may be made in his memory to St James' Church, Calderbrook.
