Wardle FC president dies aged 63

Date published: 08 January 2014

Wardle Football Club president Allan Clegg has died at the age of 63.

Mr Clegg, who served as a player for the club before his retirement from the game, was a key figure at Rutherford Park.

Former club chairman Graham Foster, who worked with Mr Clegg at the club for over 25 years, paid tribute to a man who “did everything” at Wardle FC.

Mr Foster said: “He kept the club going. He put his own money in and spent time as groundsman, treasurer and chairman.

“He did everything really. He’s probably the second biggest name in the history of the club.”

Mr Clegg’s funeral service is due to take place at 1.00pm Monday 13 January at Rochdale Crematorium.

The funeral procession will drive to Wardle FC on the way to the crematorium and all are welcome to attend and pay respects to Mr Clegg.

If you do wish to pay respects to the former club president please arrive at the clubhouse before midday and do not park on the car park as full access is required for the funeral cortege.
