Hornets Ladies in the Challenge Cup Final

Date published: 12 February 2014

Rochdale Hornets Ladies have secured their place in the Challenge Cup Final.

Their semi-final went ahead on Sunday 9 February, at Firgrove Playing Fields against Castleford Panthers, despite severe weather conditions.

At full time the score was 18-18, taking the game to 20 minutes extra time. No tries were scored and the game then went to Golden Point, with the first team to score either a drop goal or a try taking the win. Almost three hours after kick off, Rochdale Hornets Ladies saw a gap in the Castleford defence and Terri Davey powered over the line to secure the win.

A club spokesperson said: "The coaching with Sophie Cox, British Judo Olympian, has helped the ladies with their fitness and grapple technique, giving Castleford a very tough semi-final.

"This is Rochdale Hornets Ladies first season together, and everyone is delighted with the progress.

"The Ladies would like to thank all the supporters that turned up to deliver amazing support."
