Roper joins All Golds on loan

Date published: 26 March 2014

Experienced Hornets half back Steve Roper has, subject to RFL approval, joined University of Gloucester All Golds on an initial one month loan.

The 27-year-old scrum half, from Wigan, has been with Hornets for over five years and has been one of the clubs most consistent players in that time but has currently fallen down the pecking order.

Ian Talbot, head coach, commented: "Ropes needs some game time. Ryan (Millard) and Paul (Crook) have both turned in man of the match performances in the last two weeks and we are well covered in the hooker position at the moment, where Steve can do a job, so we have opted to find him a club.

"The All Golds have suffered a bit with illness and injury recently and I'm sure a player of Steven's calibre will support them in the short term. He is experienced and will bring the best out of some of the young players they have down there as well as keep up his match sharpness ready for the Championship."
