Mick Johnson joins the Hornets Board

Date published: 16 April 2014

Mick Johnson is to join the Rochdale Hornets board of directors with immediate effect.

Mick has been a supporter of Rochdale Hornets since the 1980s and has attended both home and away fixtures regularly since retiring as a player from Norden Cricket Club a few years ago.

His family links go further back still as his grandad was a player for the Hornets in the late 1920s/early 30s.

A former committee member at Norden, Mick is also a season ticket holder and follower of Rochdale AFC and has family ties with the Dale, as his dad is the former commercial manager at Dale, and it is these skills and experiences he hopes to bring to the board of Rochdale Hornets.

Mick Commented: “I am very passionate about Hornets and I want to do my bit. I didn’t stand for election last time around as I was a new member and wasn’t sure how it all worked but after doing a bit of research I feel confident I can do my bit to help Hornets prosper in the future.

"I work at Howarth’s Timber and have a lot of contacts, so I hope I can persuade many of them to support Hornets financially and take up some sponsorships. I got Howarth’s involved last year, sponsoring a match and Lewis Sheridan, and this year we have sponsored the kit. We all loved our day out at Hornets and I’m sure I can help engage more people to become involved as sponsors, which is what the club needs to survive.”

Mick has been co-opted onto the board to fill the seat recently vacated by the resignation of Barry Shaw and, as per the rules of the club, he will stand down as a co-opted director in September and put himself forward via the traditional nomination and election procedure.
