Hornets say farewell to Kay Doherty

Date published: 04 February 2015

Rochdale Hornets training session on Tuesday 3 February 2015 marked the end of an era. Kay Doherty attended her last training session in her official capacity of club physiotherapist.

Kay is standing down in preparation for the birth of her first baby this summer.

Kay started her career in physiotherapy 18 years ago and has been Hornets physiotherapist for the past nine years.

Rarely missing a match, the last time being her wedding and honeymoon, Kay has been an ever present at the club. Treating players as an extension of her family she has prepared the squad for action, treating them on the field of play and, where needed, planned and guided their rehabilitation ready for the next game.

Head coach, Ian Talbot lead the squad in thanking Kay for her help and support over the years stating: “You have been an integral part of the Hornets squad for nine years. There are numerous players in the game that owe a huge thank you for your help and support.”

Walter Tann, Vice Chairman and Player Welfare Manager, said: “Player welfare is paramount at Hornets and we have worked hard over the past six years to ensure that our most valuable asset, the players, are cared for in the best possible way at all times. Kay has been an integral part of this strategy.

"Kay has demonstrated her commitment to Rochdale Hornets over a nine year period and her professional expertise has been invaluable.

“On behalf of the Board, squad and members I would like to say a huge thank you to Kay for her dedication and for all the help she has offered each and every one of our players over the years. Kay has already received farewell message from around the world and they are all well deserved.

"Everyone at Hornets wishes Kay all the best for the future and look forward to welcoming Kay and her husband, Mark, along with the baby later in the summer."
