Rochdale Hornets 16 - 23 Oldham Roughyeds

Oldham finally got their revenge 18 months after Hornets broke their hearts in the in the Kingstone Press Championship One play-off final. Hornets dominated most of the first half but went into the half time break with a slender two point lead. Hornets handed the game to Roughyeds when a simple mistake resulted in the only try of the second half.

It took twenty minutes before the deadlock was finally broken in this local derby when Dale Bloomfield crossed the Oldham line to give Hornets the lead. Paul Crook with the conversion.

Hornets kept the pressure up and it paid off when Crook went over. His kick added the extras.

Roughyeds opened their account through Josh Crowley. Lewis Palfrey with the conversion.

Oldham gave away a soft penalty and Hornets looked comfortable with an eight point lead.

After dominating most of first half, with half time approaching Hornets completely switched off and allowed Roughyeds in on the stroke of half time.

After a great run from Tyson, Lewis Palfrey scored the try. Palfrey also converted.

Rochdale Hornets 14 - 12 Oldham Roughyeds

The second half started as the first, tense and nip and tuck and again it took twenty minutes before points were added to the scoreboard. Charnock was sin binned and Roughyeds leveled the score with a penalty by Palfrey.

Roughyeds took the lead for the first time with another penalty, kicked by Paltrey.

Hornets then gifted the ball to Roughyeds from the kick off and they took full advantage of the possession to increase their lead. Crowley with the try. Paltrey the conversion.

Roper rubbed salt in the Hornets wound as he dropped a goal for Roughyeds to complete the scoring.
