Oxford 16 - 54 Rochdale Hornets

Date published: 16 August 2015

Rochdale Hornets went fourth, and into the promotion play-off places, in the Kingstone Press League One having recorded a comfortable victory over Oxford in front of just 51 supporters at Pennine Way, Hemel.

Two tries from Dale Bloomfield along with tries from Matty Fozard, James Dandy, Jordan Case, Danny Yates, Michael Ratu, Dave Hull, Bradley Hargreaves and Alex McClurg, plus seven goals, including his 500th for Hornets, from the trusty boot of Paul Crook highlighted the gulf in class between the two teams.

Hargreaves opened the scoring for Hornets and Paul Crook added the extras before Oxford levelled through a Lee Land try and Nathan Kitson goal.

Thereafter Hornets were in control and had the game sewn up by half time with a twenty point lead, and continued their domination throughout the second half.

Local rivals Oldham remain top and favourites for automatic promotion, however, just four points separate second to seventh in the battle for the play off spots. Hornets will need to win all three of their remaining games, two of which are against play-off place rivals Keighley Cougars and Barrow Raiders, to be sure of a play-off place.
