Rochdale Christmas Guide
Town Centre Management (TCM) has put together an events guide to help residents make the most of visiting Rochdale town centre this Christmas.
There’s a host of entertainment throughout the festive season with lots of shops and bars and restaurants.
Parking is free after 3pm every day and all day Saturday and Sunday on council car parks.
Debbie Hernon, CEO of TCM, said: "Rochdale Town Centre Management and Rochdale Council are committed to supporting Rochdale businesses and hope that you can show your support too and shop local this festive period.
"For every £1 you spend with a local, independent business, between 50p-70p circulates back into your local economy. Shopping locally supports local traders, their suppliers and the people they depend upon to run their businesses. Buying locally boosts your local economy, rebuilding confidence in the community, enabling local businesses to grow."
Christmas Lights Switch On
Saturday 16 November 4.00pm
Taking Christmas back to what it should be.
Magical lantern parades made by children, choirs, street theatre with trapeze performances from Skylight Circus.
Come and meet one of Rochdale’s newest ambassadors, Katie McGlynn, star of Waterloo Road and Coronation Street who will be helping to push that final button and flood us in Christmas cheer.
Father Christmas & Reindeer Parade
Sunday 1 December at 12-3.00pm
This festive event returns to Rochdale town centre for 2013.
Father Christmas will parade down Yorkshire Street in his sleigh, pulled by his trusty reindeer and followed by a brass brand playing Christmas carols, entertaining street theatre and local school children.
After the parade is finished on The Butts, meet Father Christmas and feed the reindeer in their pen.
Children’s rides and Christmas music will add to the day’s entertainment.
Small Business Saturday
Saturday 7 December
Support your local Independent retailer starting with a 'Cash Mob' at 12pm outside Butterworth Sports on Yorkshire Street.
Bring £5 to spend and TCM will take you 'mob' handed to visit one of the town's independent retailers.
There will be festive music, children’s rides, window displays to entice you in and a special invitation only event promoted on Rochdale Online the week prior.
Ice Rink & Log Cabins
Saturday 21 until Monday 23 December
This fabulous skating arena will take place in the town over this final weekend prior to Christmas. All you need to do is show a receipt to the value of £5 for goods purchased in Rochdale Town centre during the month of December and you can skate for free.
Surrounding the ice rink there will be log cabins adding to the festive atmosphere of the rink providing you with Christmas food and drink to keep you warm and those last minute presents to snap up whilst you watch the children skate.
Link4Life’s Arts & Heritage Service will be at the event with a range of fun arts activities for families.
