The Little Art Gallery in the Rochdale Online Department Store

Date published: 19 August 2014

The Little Art Galley is selling artwork by Rochdale artist John Cooke in the Rochdale Online Department Store.

John, who works as an artist and photographer, is using the department store to sell his artwork that specifically reflects Rochdale such as the Town Hall, the Parish Church and Rochdale Canal.

John said: “I have decided to sell things that are predominantly Rochdale based because the site is Rochdale orientated. At the moment I have a
number of views of Rochdale for sale but in the future I may look at expanding and selling views of Manchester.”

John has always had an interest in photography, art and architecture and has merged all three of his interests in his work.

Most of the work John produces starts with a high resolution photograph. He then uses a special technique to add ultra thin layers of colour to the image. Each colour interacts with all of the other colours that have already been laid down creating a fusion of tints and shades.

John is currently one of two local artists to use the Rochdale Online Department Store to sell his artwork.

He said: “I thought it was a very good idea and it is a very unique idea to be involved with and it is something I am very pleased to be part of.”

Sellers who use the Department Store are in control of what they put online with many sellers commenting that the site is easy to use. John added to this feedback and said: “At first it took some getting used to because it was something new to me but now I find it incredibly easy to us.”

He added: “It is a really good idea for Rochdale and I am definitely glad I got on board with it.”
