Letter: New council leader

Date published: 12 December 2017

Dear Editor,

Rochdale was presented with an opportunity last night to elect a new leader who would bring unity and genuine hope in difficult circumstances.

I was born in Rochdale and would love to see this town prosper as much as our noisy neighbours in Bury and Oldham.

Sadly, it appeared virtually all of the Asian councillors backed Allen Brett and took no account of the voices crying out for a change.

The new leaders first initiative is to promote a beer festival.

The Labour movement has always been about putting the most vulnerable and disadvantaged first.

More and more families are relying on foodbanks whilst our councillors decided to put their own self-interest first.

In my ward, none of the three sitting Labour councillors have in recent years held a surgery.

The sad reality is councillors will keep picking up the pay packets for doing nothing, whilst families this Christmas will be struggling to make ends meet as a direct result of council’s poor decision making and wastefulness.
