Sam George excels in work experience with Virgin Trains

Sam George has just completed two weeks working with the Virgin trains’ team at Manchester Piccadilly Station.

Sam, who has recently completed his GCSE exams at Wardle Academy, has a keen interest in trains and the locomotive industry and this work experience was anopportunity for him to learn more.

Over the past two weeks, Sam has covered a variety of positions which included, immediate and advanced travel tickets sales and enquiries, floor walking, which involves being front of house and potentially the first Virgin representative the customers see.

He has helped customers receive information quickly, reducing queue times and also generally being on hand to assist with luggage or directions.

Sam also worked in platform despatch, shadowing staff, understanding safety aspects, prompt departures and the impact that delays have further down the line.

He has also worked on board trains covering the catering service first class and in the shop, plus being a Train Manager to and from London.

Andy Roberts, Virgin Trains customer experience turnaround manager, said: “Sam has had a very busy two weeks here at Manchester Piccadilly and has thoroughly enjoyed his time here. The team have taken to Sam as he has been an absolute pleasure to have around the business.

“His attitude has been 100% every day, he is polite, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly and will be valued member of any team in the future.

“Sam has been an absolute star and a total credit to his school, family and himself.”
