Children encouraged to Stop! Look! Listen! Live!

Date published: 20 July 2016

St Edward’s Church of England, Castleton Primary and St Gabriel’s Roman Catholic primary schools were visited by STORM members of The Friends of Castleton Station to highlight the importance of rail safety during the summer holidays.

Councillor Billy Sheerin gave a safety presentation and engaging quiz on the ‘Our Railway is Changing’ theme to encourage the children to take part.

The quiz tested the childrens’ knowledge of trains with questions such as:

  • How many trains pass through Castleton in an hour?
  • How long does it take a train travelling at 60 miles per hour to stop?

The presentation was wrapped up with Network Rail’s video ‘the level crossing rap.’  The video was created specifically for primary schools and was released last year.

The children chanted along with the life-saving message to Stop! Look! Listen! Live!

STORM members, in collaboration with Network Rail and the police, wish to raise awareness of rail improvements and increased services along the line.
