A first for 'The Growth Project'

Date published: 27 July 2016

The Growth Project at Kellett Street allotments will be the first garden in the borough to open under the National Garden Scheme and to be in the so-called ‘bible’ of garden visiting and the key to secret gardens of England and Wales, the Yellow Book.

The project, which was devastated by the December floods, is once again a thriving haven for wildlife, vegetables and flowers. The project includes a wildlife pond, wild flower border, cut flower garden and a potager.

Volunteers have worked tirelessly over the last six months to revitalise the site and now the fruits of their labour will be open to the public

Opening on Saturday the 6 August from 11.30am-4.00pm there will be guided tours of the garden and organic vegetable beds, giving horticultural advice.

Afternoon tea will be served on the lawn by the Victorian style ornate 'woodland green' woodworking station. There will also be plant, cut flower and vegetable sales of produce grown on site.

All proceeds will go to the National Garden Scheme charities and The Growth Project, which is a partnership between Hourglass and Rochdale and District Mind.
