Team Tom raise £3,431 for the Hospice

Date published: 13 September 2016

Tom Thornton tragically lost his life to cancer just weeks after the birth of their son Maxwell.

Chantelle Thornton, her family and friends, wanted to say ‘thank you’ and help ensure that Springhill’s doctors and nurses could continue their care for others in the future.

Chantelle, along with ‘Team Tom’,  a group made up of over 30 supporters, chose to run Manchester’s 10k, raising both money and awareness for the Hospice.

Speaking about their fundraising efforts Chantelle said: “Team Tom has collectively raised £3,431 so far and our total is still rising. It is really important to us all to know that someone else will receive the same extra special care that Tom was able to receive.”

Wearing specially made t-shirts bearing the smiling face of Rochdale Rugby Union player Tom, the group trained for and ran the Manchester 10k in May of this year. Tom’s widow, Chantelle, and his father Kevin, proudly took part sporting their Team Tom t-shirts. The two were even more proudly supported by Tom’s mother Vanessa and his son, Maxwell.

Springhill Chief Executive, Julie Halliwell said: “It is clear from the community’s response to Tom’s death and from the support of everyone in Team Tom, that he was an inspirational man.

“The money that has been raised will go directly to patient care ensuring that the work of our dedicated staff and volunteers can continue. The whole ward team were moved by Tom, his family and friends and we cannot thank them all enough for their support.”
