Taylor Wimpey taken to task over state of Hurst Meadow fields

Date published: 30 September 2016

Taylor Wimpey has been taken to task about the poor state of Hurst Meadow fields, which it is responsible for maintaining.

Hurst Meadow fields (off New Broad Lane and Craiglands) is a well-used public open space and also includes a large pond, footpaths and nature walks.

Residents have complained about the poor maintenance of the area carried out by the land owner Taylor Wimpey.

Balderstone and Kirkholt councillor, Richard Farnell, who organised a walkabout with council and Taylor Wimpey officials, said: "This really is a pleasant beauty-spot but it's being ruined by a lack of care and attention from the owners.

"Trees blown over by high winds have just been left, public footpaths have become overgrown and impassible and bushes and shrubs left to grow wild.

"The walkabout with company and council bosses was very useful. Taylor Wimpey has agreed to sort out the immediate neglect straight away. They are also drawing up a detailed maintenance schedule to ensure high standards of maintenance are kept in the future.

"It's a really nice area to stroll through and enjoy. Local residents and myself will be keeping a close eye on the area to ensure Taylor Wimpey are as good as their word."
