Local dancer Max Wood had the chance of a lifetime when he performed on stage with Justin Bieber at his Tuesday concert (18 October) at Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena.

Max, 12, from Hopwood, is part of a dance crew called Gassed at 0161 Dance Company; he and three others were chosen to audition to take part in Bieber’s world tour, ‘Purpose’.

Max’s mum, Shelley Wood, said: “Max found out about his audition through his dance teacher, Cheeks Carr, after she was approached by Soar UK, who were asked by Justin Bieber’s head choreographer for talented dancers for the show.”

Max auditioned on 7 October and discovered he had secured a place on 12 October.

VIP treatment was given to Max before and after the show.

He danced on stage with Justin during the song ‘Children’ with fellow Gassed dancers Mia Ceraldi, Missy Pollard and Robert Kiss.

Speaking about the performance, Max said: “It’s the best experience I have ever had.”

In November, Max and the rest of the Gassed dance team will be taking part in the World of Dance UK competition in London in a bid to qualify for the 2017 World of Dance final in Los Angeles.

The World of Dance competition was set up in 2008, and attracts more than 100,000 dancers each year.
