Date published: 23 November 2016

Rochdale’s Gwen Raby has qualified for the Miss England 2017 semi-finals in Nottingham after earning the title of Miss Charity Lancashire 2016/17.

Gwen, who studies Musical Theatre at Pendleton College, raised an impressive £1,500 pounds for Variety the Children’s Charity through several events, including a sponsored abseil down Rochdale Town Hall’s clock tower, a Fashion-Aid catwalk event and a ticket event with live singers.

She said: “I entered the Miss England Heats to build my confidence and make friends. Getting to the semi-finals is a massive accomplishment for me as I have done this alongside my college studies.

“I’m proud to live in Rochdale and represent where I come from in the Miss England semi-finals.”

Gwen is now raising money for Beauty with a Purpose, formerly known as the Miss World Scholarship, whose funds go towards helping disadvantaged children worldwide.

The semi-finals will take place at Kelham Hall in Nottingham in June 2017.
