Dragon Boat Race 2016 raised over £5,000

Date published: 30 November 2016

Robbie Robinson and John Geldard, representatives of Rochdale Round Table, sprung a surprise visit on Hospice mascot, Springy the Frog, presenting a cheque for £5,000 from the group's July Dragon Boat Race at Hollingworth Lake.

The total increased even more once money donated by participants direct to Springhill Hospice was added, bringing the total amount of money raised on the day to £5,960.75.

Robbie Robinson said: "We are hugely proud of our achievements, not only for creating and maintaining a successful event which is accessible to all, but also as it has given us the ability to give something to such an amazing cause; over the last three years, with everyone’s support, we have raised a grand total of £23,000 for Springhill Hospice."

Sarah Ford, the Hospice Income Services Manager, said: "We are enormously grateful to the team at Rochdale Round Table, the event is a huge undertaking which they organise so well. They've now got it down to a fine art and provide wonderful support for the Hospice. We're already looking forward to the Dragon Boat Race next year, which I’m sure will be another triumph for these dedicated fundraisers and an incredible continued benefit to the people in our community."

The team at Rochdale Round Table already have plans in place for next year's event when Saturday 24 June will see more teams taking on the Dragon Boat Challenge at Hollingworth Lake.
