Right Stuff Right Bin Campaign at Deeplish Community Centre

Date published: 01 December 2016

Residents from Milkstone and Deeplish ward joined forces with the Council's recycling team to raise awareness of the recycling and ‘Right Stuff Right Bin’ campaign around inner areas of Rochdale.

An open session was held at Deeplish Community Centre to inform people of the affects and changes in recycling and their impact on waste management. This was attended by local women’s group.

The Council’s Recycling Improvement & Participation Officer, Nigel Goulding attended the open session with his colleague and worked with residents and local community representatives to give detailed information on recycling, Right Stuff Right Bin and dealt with issues and concerns to address and tackle recycling, missing bins and right size bins, etc.

He explained procedures for the weekly food waste collection and the use of slim brown bin if there is more food to recycle.

He delivered brown slim bins to families who needed them.

He also explained that if people put the wrong stuff in the wrong bin, then this bin will not be collected and if people keep using the wrong bin, they could be fined.

Councillor Zaman commented: "We started this campaign last year and we are pleased to see changes taken on board and most residents are fully complying with recycling. We are pleased that our local community centre also took this initiative on board and are committed to promote and support recycling in this ward and other neighbourhoods.

Sohail Ahmad, manager at Deeplish Community Centre, said: "We are supporting this initiative jointly with local residents and Rochdale Council to ensure maximum recycling is done in our ward and we already pleased to see cleaner Deeplish.

"We are pleased to work with RMBC recycling team to support and promote this campaign”.
