Rochdale schools needed for woodland creation

City of Trees is helping connect children to the trees, woods and wildlife on their doorstep

City of Trees is calling on schools in Rochdale to get in touch to be part of a new project helping to re-establish children’s connection to the natural world.

Schools are invited to join in with a programme of tree and nature based activities, which will run this school year. Activities will include learning about tree ID and folklore, which encourage creativity and literacy skills.

Pupils will also get the chance to learn dendrology (the study of tree rings) to explore the local history of an area, with activities taking place at local beauty spot Hollingworth Lake.

In addition to classroom activities, City of Trees will help at least five schools plant trees and create small woodlands in their school grounds which can be used for forest school activity.

Beth Kelsall, City of Trees, comments; “This fantastic initiative will connect children with the nature right on their doorstep with a great combination of both indoor and outdoor activities.

“The creation of forest schools areas will offer pupils a unique hands-on learning experience in an outdoor environment, which is especially important in today’s technology-focussed world”.

The project is being supported by Property Alliance Group, a property developer, investor and asset manager.
