Rochdale Mosques bring in the New Year by helping the homeless cope with the big freeze

Date published: 31 December 2016

Madina Mosque, Newbold, Rochdale and Neeli Mosque, Deeplish, Rochdale, which are UKIM Rochdale branches, have been taking part in an iCare fundraiser to distribute 'Cold Survival Kits' to provide some respite for the homeless sleeping rough this winter.

They have also raised over £1,150 as part of a wider appeal across the country, which to date has raised close to £10,000.

Soban Bashir and Amir Zia, who are the Chairmen of the two mosques, said: “We are proud to be working together to support projects and charities which benefit local people.

"25 survival kits are being distributed across Rochdale over the New Year weekend and many more across other parts of the country. We need to ensure we do all we can to help those in need.”

Irman Tariq, head of iCare, said: “The iCare Cold Survival Kit project is going to support many homeless people sleeping rough across the UK.

"With 50 UKIM branches participating across the country, it is incredibly inspiring to see Rochdale mosques come together in partnership and get involved to help those that are less fortunate in their locality.”
