Ameilia Reynolds - Brownie of the Year

Date published: 13 January 2017

Ameilia Reynolds, aged 9, is Brownie of the Year for 9th Heywood St Margaret’s Brownies.

Exceptional behaviour, fantastic dedication and being a wonderful role model for younger Brownies allowed Ameilia to take the trophy in a close competition; two Brownies managed to take the lead with Ameilia eventually emerging the victor with the most points.

Ameilia, who has been in Brownies since she was seven and is due to join Guides in the summer, said: “I’ve really enjoyed Brownies. I feel I have grown in confidence and look forward to coming every week. To be chosen as Brownie of the Year is a great honour and I feel like I’ve really achieved something special.”

In second place and runner-up Brownie of the Year is Jennifer Deakin, aged 9.

Jennifer has been in Brownies for almost three years and is a Brownie Buddy to assist the younger girls. She is also due to move onto Guides and is looking forward to the new challenges that await her. Jennifer struggled to pinpoint a favourite moment, but also suggested the Pets At Home trip was an excellent experience.

After receiving her certificate, Jennifer said “Even though I missed out on Brownie of the Year, to be chosen as the Runner-Up has made me really happy and a big achievement. I have loved my time at Brownies and will miss it when I move to Guides.”

Tawny Owl, Alyson Quinn, handed out the awards and said: “I am so proud of Ameilia; it was such a tight race with Jennifer. The girls are similar in many ways, both turning up each week in full uniform and any equipment they need. They help the younger Brownies and are excellent role models who always try their best. I am going to very sad to see them move on to Guides, but it’s been a privilege to have them at Brownies."
