Three Amigos fundraising group given award

Date published: 21 January 2017

The Three Amigos Fundraising Group have been presented with an award of acknowledgement from Littleborough Lions, in recognition of their work for Cancer Research UK.

Made up of Andy and Kath O’Donnell, and their Yorkshire Terrier Oscar, The Three Amigos began raising money for Cancer Research UK after Andy received treatment for testicular cancer, and have raised tens of thousands for the charity over the past decade.

Kath O’Donnell said: “We are very humbled and grateful for the award. We do not do our fundraising for any recognition and this was a lovely surprise.

“I received a lovely bouquet of flowers, Andy received a bottle of red wine, and Oscar got a big bone.

“This year we have raised the most yet, in excess of £16,000, making our overall total £80,000.”

Littleborough Lions President Norah Hawksworth, Treasurer Harry Hawksworth and Social Welfare Officer Lynn Butterworth presented the award on Wednesday (18 January). The Littleborough Lions say they are ‘ordinary people within their local community who willingly volunteer their time to humanitarian causes’.

The Lion's Clubs is a global community service organisation that is dedicated to the idea that the men and women who live in a community are in the best position to know who needs help and why. Lion's Clubs International is the world's largest such organisation with 1.4 million members serving in 195 countries and areas.

The Three Amigos have a number of events lined up this year, and are appealing to people to help or offer prizes for raffles. Kath said: “we would be very grateful as these events really do help in raising much needed funds for Cancer Research UK.”
