Jacqui Stephens releases single ‘Children of Syria’ to raise funds for SKT-Welfare

Jacqui Stephens, a volunteer from Rochdale, has released a single called ‘Children of Syria’ in order to raise funds for SKT-Welfare, a UK-registered charity that provides humanitarian relief across the globe.

Jacqui said: “I am very passionate about the less fortunate and vulnerable both, at home and abroad and want to raise awareness and funds for the Syrian refugee children who have become victims of this major humanitarian crisis.

“This time of year, these children will be cold, hungry, have a lack of medical care proper housing and no education. This is a disaster for the future of these children and my heart aches for each and every one of them.

“I have written a single called the 'Children of Syria' which is very emotive and epic and brings tears to your eyes. I hope this song raises enough money to help these less fortunate children with some of their needs.”

Jacqui, who explains singing as her hobby, has also written previous songs about homelessness, loneliness, and child and animal abuse. She volunteers for Community Champions to help people improve their reading, writing, spelling and computer skills, and also volunteers as a Talk English tutor for those whose first language is not English, helping them to improve their skills in speaking, listening, reading, writing and numeracy. She has volunteered for these causes for nearly four years.

Jacqui can sing in French, Italian and Spanish but cannot speak conversationally in these.

Prior to this, Jacqui volunteered for Victim Support and the Back Door Music Project (now Vibe music). She has been writing songs since she was twelve years old but has only started ‘taking it seriously in the last five years’.

She added: “I am very proud to be a part of these two teams, which helped me to gain confidence and independence when, I was at a low point in my life and I am thankful to them for that.

“A brilliant quote by one of the team, Helen, was:

"'If you want to change something in your life, be proactive, go out and change it'.

“That is exactly what I did, so thank you, Helen.”

Jacqui chose SKT-Welfare because of their large presence on the Syrian refugee plight. She explained: “My neighbour’s daughter raised funds for them for two years while at school. She came to me with a poster about raising funds for the Syrian children and I offered to help to raise more funds by writing a song called 'Children of Syria'.”

SKT-Welfare operates a 100% donation policy and relies on committed and experienced volunteers. The charity has accomplished several projects in the UK, Pakistan, India, Morocco, Somalia and Palestine since its inception in 2008.

Since the Syrian conflict in 2011, SKT-Welfare has re-oriented most of its humanitarian efforts to deliver aid to Syrians in need, both within Syria and within refugee camps in neighbouring countries.

All proceeds raised from the single will be donated to SKT-Welfare.
