New funding for Littleborough residents hit by floods
Date published: 12 April 2017
Significant funding has been secured to rebuild a wall and stabilise the land to the rear of Whitfield Brow, Littleborough, an area of the town which was hit hard by the Boxing Day 2015 floods.
Andrew Robinson, of Whitfield Brow, said: “It’s been a long time, a year and a half in fact, to get this funding. Throughout that time the land behind Whitfield Brow and the wall itself has been in a bad state. It’s good that there is now money for repairs, but residents of Whitfield Brow will have to wait until the work is done before we can celebrate.”
David Oakes, Service Manager at Rochdale Borough Council, said the funding is “obviously excellent news” for residents of Whitfield Brow.
Simon Danczuk, who raised the need for better funding with the Under-Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Therese Coffey, in parliament earlier this year, said: “I welcome the announcement from the Government, and I am pleased that all the representations that have been made are paying off for the residents of Whitfield Brow.”
